Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?

This is the line in James Taylor's classic You've Got A Friend that kept running through my head today. You'll see why. I am certain James Taylor will be quoted again so there's no link for him today. Instead, I linked another video I thought was kind of funny. Click the title to see it.

I didn't want to do it. I still don't, but I realized it could be a very useful tool in ministry believe it or not, and if the predators and bad guys were gonna be there, than there needed to be some good guys too.

So today I put up a myspace profile.

It'll be permanentaly linked to the right, although I will be posting nothing there of significance, just using it to communicate with kids and friends. There was a video I saw a couple weeks ago called The Kids of Myspace and it showed kids smoking weed, drinking alcohol, and slutting it up on their profiles. It was a pretty scary thing to realize these were mostly teenagers and they were doing this all on a free website. Even scarier is that many of them bare their souls online as well.

Parents plugged in and aware should make sure all the safety measures are put in place, some features allow you to only view the profile if you're invited. But even that will require some attention. Anyway, I still think it's a pretty superficial site that probably won't affect this one at all, but needed you to know why there's an extra link now.

Here's an hysterical song explaining myspace to those in the dark.

I also linked permanently the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomonational website since (although it's still not official) it appears I will be working for them.

I hope I get to communicate in new ways with kids and again with kids I've lost touch with on myspace. Or it shuts down for all of our sakes!!!

And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn. Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice.

I can't imagine Johnny Cash and Eminem would be close pals, something to do with one being a people loving transcendent voice and the other being a people hating self absorbed prick. However, I think Johnny would have understood certain moments n Marshall Mathers' music, like this chorus from his song When I'm Gone. The link will take you to the article I used primarily for this blog.

Two new releases from Johnny were announced this month!

This month, May 23 to be exact, a collection of recordings Johnny did at his private studio in the 70's and 80's will be released under the moniker he worte on the boxes storing them, Johny Cash: Personal File. This is a collection of previously unreleased recordings of Johnny covering songs that meant something to him, his and others, in his forties and fifties. His son John Carter Cash has had a hand in producing the album and it will be a double album covering songs recorded from 1973 to 1982. I will be buying a copy on May 23.

Then July 4 Rick Rubin has announced he will be releasing American V: A Hundred Highways. These songs were recorded in the months leading up to John's death, and especially helped him deal with June's passing in May of 2003. The album will include two brand new songs written by Cash, including his last ever composition 'Like the 309', a last train song in a long line of them. It will also include some covers; a Springsteen song, a Hank Wiliams song, a Gordon Lightfoot tune, and a traditional spiritual.

Rick Rubin, as well as a first rate group of musicians and Cash's engineer David "fergie" Ferguson completed the album since Johnny's death in September 2003.

Rick Rubin spoke with Billboard:

"Johnny said that recording was his main reason for being alive," Rubin says. "And I think it was the only thing that kept him going, the only thing he had to look forward to."

Having recently begun my argument for why all radios should be turned off I am happy to say something good will be put into the world, regardless of how far away the artist is from this plane of existence.

"We felt Johnny's presence during the whole process through to the end," Rubin adds. "It felt like he was directing the proceedings, and I know that the musicians all felt that as well... More than once, Fergie and I would look at each other and say 'Johnny would love this,' because it was so good and so different from anything we'd done before, we knew he would be excited by what was happening."

Perhaps he's not too far away...

I'll own American V before 10:00 am July 4. Two new albums from Johnny Cash in the next three months? It's gonna be a good summer.

It's a little bit funny; this feeling inside.

This is a lyric written by Bernie Taupin for Elton John's Your Song. I thought it went well with this picture. I also thought there was a certain artist who's music belonged linked to this sign. Click the title to watch some of his videos and weep at what fame does to someone.

I have little to say in the way of introduction. I simply think that someone might get the wrong impression of Christianity from this,

Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and evey one goes, 'cause evey one knows Brother Love's Show.

Believe it or not, Neil Diamond writes some pretty damn good songs. My favorite is Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show which I quoted in the title. Check out his website by clicking the title and find out why my pal Jace says Neil's was one of the best concerts he's ever seen.

"He opened AND clsoed with 'Come Into America'. It was awesome!-AJ

These are lyrics I wrote last night that I will soon have one of the guys in my band put some music to. Thought they were a decent first draft of lyrics. Hearing kind of a bluesy rockin' spiritual when I sing these words. Might be listening to too much of Bruce Springsteen's new album?!

Dying Breed

Where’s my mark, where’s camera one
Feedback in my earpiece, what’s that from
Practice my greeting, watch the lighting cue
‘Evening creation, how are you?’

I got a brand new suit, every hair is in place
Got sincerity frozen all over my face
Italian leather shoes and golden rings
Hanky for crying when the choir sings

Open the temple doors and let me come in
Stand those fallen tables back on end
Gather round I got an old old story to sell
Tonight I’m gonna tell you who’s going to hell

My shiny white smile is deceptively kind
But as long as you believe me than I don’t mind
Another gift I’ve been given for my important work
One of a dying breed of prophets put upon the earth

There’s a penalty to disbelief I’m here to say
But pray to me on your TV and you’ll be saved
Buy my CD and new DVD to teach you how to live
They both come free when you call me and give your gift

Open the temple doors and let me come in
Stand those fallen tables back on end
Gather round I got an old old story to sell
Tonight I’m gonna tell you who’s going to hell

Truth is long ago I wasn’t near this sure
I had questions like you do now
But life is harder when the answers are unclear
Every day there’s something to figure out
I got tired of the journey and all the gray I knew
I found a nice black/white place to rest
Where the stakes are high and the work is done for you
Life’s not a journey but a test

Open the temple doors and let me come in
Stand those fallen tables back on end
Gather round I got an old old story to sell
Tonight I’m gonna tell you who’s going to hell

Ten thousand here today and millions more at home
Each time I doubt, I figure they can’t all be wrong
I toss off my sandals and I close my mind
Step out to my mark, camera one to find

The card attached would say 'thank you for being a friend.'

This title is a lyric from a pretty bad song that has a large amount of significance for me. It is Thank You For Being A Friend written by Andrew Gold and while it's cheesy and sentimental, it is also the theme song to The Golden Girls which was one of my favorite shows to watch when I was a kid because it was the first one my Grandma and I both liked. I still think it was quite a good show. Click the title to learn more about Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia and the ladies who played them.

After my last post, which was fun to write, but perhaps not fun to read for everybody I felt I owed a small post to you all. This quote has been lifting me lately.

"Love is blind, but friendship closes its eyes." -unknown
